Severe Storms Impacts Southeast Kansas
June 23rd, 2008

Severe storms packing large hail and damaging winds affected portions of Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri Sunday night into early Monday morning. Tyler Costantini and I intercepted a hail core running into hail as big as baseball size just east of Columbus, KS on Highway 160. Later on we experienced an intense downburt on Lawton Road near the KOAM-TV studio where we got hit by another round of hail and winds of up to 70MPH.

KOAM-TV's WeatherCall
For $6.95 a year you can stay on top of severe weather warnings for your immediate area with KOAM-TV's new WeatherCall system. If you live in extreme Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma, Southwest Missouri or Northwest Arkansas take a minute to check out this service. From what I've heard the system has worked great so far and it's a quick way to get warnings that affect you.

June 6th Storm Chase
A low precipitation (LP) supercell developed in Cherokee County, KS near the Kansas/Oklahoma border and quickly became tornadic. The National Weather Service office in Springfield, MO issued the first tornado warning at 8:28 for Cherokee County. Tyler Costantini and I got on the storm as it passed near Scammon, KS at which point it had a very large and well defined funnel cloud.

May 31st Storm Chase: Oklahoma
Tyler Costantini and I decided to head to to Oklahoma on Saturday, May 31st, with an intial target of Stillwater, Oklahoma. We left Pittsburg, KS during the 2:00 hour and while along Highway 60 west of Pawhuska, Oklahoma we noticed towers starting to go up. The storm quickly intensified and became tornado warned, Tyler and I got south on Highway 123 just north of Barnsdall where we were able to watch the tornadic storm.

May 22nd Storm Chase
Myself and several other storm chasers observed several tornadoes and funnel clouds in and around Trego and Grove Counties in western Kansas on Thursday, May 22nd.
